Ten days after the transfer of death row political prisoner Hedayat Abdullahpour to an unknown location, his fate remains unknown.

The death sentence of Mr Abdullapour was previously referred to the Enforcement Office after being upheld by the Supreme Court. The continued uncertainty about his fate has raised concerns among his family and Human Rights Organizations about the possibility of enforcing the sentence.

Hedayat Abdullahpour, a Kurdish political prisoner sentenced to death, was transferred from the political prisoners’ ward of Orumiyeh Central Prison to an unknown location on Saturday, May 09.In recent days, following the enquiries made to the prison and court in Orumiyeh, his family has only been informed that he had been transferred by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to an unknown location. However, no details have been released about the reason for the transfer and whereabouts of the political prisoner.

Kurdistan Human Rights Network has obtained information that Hedayat Abdullahpour had been taken away from Orumiyeh Central Prison with the intention of being transferred to one of the IRGC’s security detention centres in Tehran.

The case of Abdullahpour has been sent to the Amnesty and Forgiveness Commission after the death sentence was upheld, so the enforcement of the sentence will not be legal until the outcome of his application is determined.

Hedayat Abdollahpour was arrested by IRGC in Shno on June 15, 2016, 50 days after the bloody conflict between the IRGC forces and the Peshmerga of the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran in the village of Qaresoghl.

The political prisoner was detained for two months in a detention centre in Orumiyeh to make forced confessions under severe torture including “electric shock”, “thonging feet soles with cable ” and other horrendous tortures before being transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison.

The trial of Abdullahpour was held on January 17, 2017, at Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh, presided over by Judge Chabak on the charge of “Assistance in Baqŷ” and “Membership of the Democratic Party of Kurdistan of Iran”.

The verdict was referred to Branch 47 of the Supreme Court upon his lawyer’s submission of contest statement but the case was referred to the same branch. The retrial of this political prisoner was held on January 10, 2018, at Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh which sentenced him to death again.
