Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that Kurdish writer “Mojgan Kavoosi” has been sentenced to 76 months and a half in prison by the Court of Appeal while she was initially sentenced to 69 months in prison by Noushahr Revolutionary Court.
Kavoosi had posted a post on her Instagram account on March 06 which stated the following:
“The court rejected the contest statements of Mr Mostafa Nili’s lawyer while agreeing with the claims made by the Noushahr Public Prosecutor and Revolutionary Court.” This post further stated that the imprisonment sentence for “propaganda against the state” had been increased from 6 months to 7 months and a half and the imprisonment sentence for “Stimulation to disrupt public order” had been increased from 30 months to 36 months while the imprisonment sentence on charges of “membership in opposition groups” had remained 33 months.
Per Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code regarding “Aggregation of Fines”, the maximum punishment will be enforceable. Accordingly, the maximum sentence of Kavousi has been increased from 33 months to 36 months.
Mojgan Kavoosi was arrested on 18 November by the Intelligence Department of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) at her home in Noshahr of Mazandaran Province and taken to the detention centre of the Ministry of Intelligence in Sari. She was transferred to Noshahr Prison on December 10.
She was sentenced to 69 months in prison by Branch 1 of the Noushahr Revolutionary Court but she was temporarily released from prison on a bail of 100 million tomans.
