Kurdish writer and cultural activist Mojgan Kavoosi was sentenced to 69 months of imprisonment, a local source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Kavoosi was sentenced to 33 months in prison by Branch 1 of the Noushahr Revolutionary Court for “membership in the Islamic Republic’s opposition parties” in addition to 30 months for “stimulation to disrupt public order” and six months for “propaganda against the state.”

The 33 months of the sentence would be applicable per Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, Aggregation of Fines.

Kavoosi was arrested on 18 November by the Intelligence Department of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corp (IRGC) at her home in Noshahr of Mazandaran Province and taken to the detention centre of the Ministry of Intelligence in Sari. She was transferred to Noshahr Prison on 10 December.

Kavoosi was reportedly arrested following her post published on Instagram regarding recent mass protests in the Kurdish cities and other cities of Iran.

Mojgan Kavoosi is a Kurdish citizen from north of Iran who graduated in Fine Arts. She has produced two documentary films, Hiwa and Wind, in recent years.
