Kurdish political prisoner Afshin Hossein Panahi has been released on parole yesterda. In late March, he was transferred from Sanandaj Central Prison for furlough.

A family member of the political prisoner confirmed the news to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) stating that the civil activists in Sanandaj worked hard to secure the bail and pursue the release of Hossein Panahi but there are some restrictions imposed on the prisoners during parole release.Environmental activist “Afshin Hossein Panahi” was arrested on June 26, 2017,  three days after Ramin Hossein Panahi was arrested at his home by security forces. He was sentenced to eight-and-a-half years in prison by branch 1 of Revolutionary Court presided over by Judge Saeedi for “conducting Nowruz ceremonies” and “collaboration with one of the Kurdish opposition parties”. 6 years of his imprisonment sentence was enforceable per the law of the aggregation of sentences.

Earlier this year, the activist was sentenced to one year in prison following the imprisonment sentence of his brother Ashraf Hossein Panahi on charges of “propaganda against the state”. He was released from Sanandaj Central Prison after serving his sentence.

It should be noted that Ramin Hossein Panahi was executed at Raja’i Shahr Prison in Karaj along with Zanyar Moradi and Loghman Moradi on September 08, 2018.
