The Sanandaj Central Prison’s authorities have increased pressures on the two brothers known as Afshin and Ramin Hossein Panahi.
Ramin Hossein Panahi, a Death Row political prisoner who is suffering from kidney pain and kidney disease, has not been offered any medical treatment in prison despite suffering from persistent pain. Also during the past few days, Ramin’s brother known as Afshin Hossein Panahi, was beaten by a guard called Abbasi in prison.
In this regard, a member of the family of Hossein Panahi has told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) that the signs of this beating on Afshin’s body had been very apparent when family members visited Afshin in prison.
The above source also added that prison authorities have still not permitted any medical examination of Ramin Hossein Panahi on the grounds that prisoners sentenced to death should not receive medical treatment.
According to this source, on Tuesday, May 22, two Intelligence agents along with Ramin’s lawyer (Public Defence attorney) have asked the two brothers in prison to cooperate with them but these political prisoners have refused to do so.
On May 19, the head of the Central Prison of Sanandaj summoned Ramin Hossein Panahi to his office and confirmed the approval of his death sentence by the Supreme Court in addition to informing him about his imminent execution after the end of Ramadan.
Moreover, Hossein Panahi’s lawyer has told ISNA that he had filed a request to reinstate his case before the Supreme Court. He has also stated that contesting the verdict is the natural and legal right of his client based on Article 474 of the Criminal Code of the Penal Code and he has submitted his contest statement in six pages including two parts which deal with the form and material defects of decision by the Supreme Court.
During the past few days, a number of civil and cultural activists from different cities of Iran have visited Ramin Hossein Panahi’s family while expressing solidarity with this political family and called for the abolition of his death sentence.
On Friday, June 22, Ramin was wounded and arrested by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Sanandaj. The political prisoner was transferred to one of IRGC Intelligence Detention Centres in Sanandaj. He was transferred to Sanandaj central Prison on January 09 after spending 200 days in the detention centre..
According to the family of this political prisoner, as well as his statements in the court, Ramin’s health has deteriorated due to torture and medical negligence during his time in solitary confinement. As a result, he is now suffering from kidney failure and amnesia. He is in poor physical health and he has not been offered any medical treatment in prison despite suffering from persistent pain due to kidney problems.
“According to his lawyer, Ahmad Hossein Niyazi, the verdict issued by Judge Saeedi and another judge at the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj (Branch 1) sentences Ramin Hossein Panahi to death by hanging per Articles 279 and 288 of the Islamic Penal Code.
On April, the case of this political prisoner was approved by the Supreme Court branch 34 and officially served to his lawyer.
