A workers’ rights activist was taken to Sanandaj Central Prison on September 23 to serve his prison sentence, a source told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

The prosecutor of Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj sentenced activist Khalil Karimi to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the state” in November last year.

He was charged for having participated in May Day celebrations and campaigned against the execution of Iranian Kurdish political prisoner Ramin Hossein Panahi.

The preliminary verdict issued for Karimi was reduced two months of imprisonment by the Court of Appeal last year.

Nabaz Kianpour, another workers’ rights activist from Sanandaj, was released on bail on September 19, 2019.

Security forces arrested Kiyanpour on September 13 before he was immediately taken him to the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Sanandaj.

He was later released on a bail of 100 million Tomans.
