“An anti-vehicle mine exploded in the mine excavation centre in Mehran on January 18. As a result, two people were injured.”, local sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

“Following this incident, one of the excavation officers of Mehran, Hojjat Kargar, was also struck by a Shrapnel shell while the excavator’s driver was shocked by the wave.” the source said.

The explosion of mines left over from the Iran-Iraq war in Iraqi Kurdistan leaves dozens of victims each year. Most of these explosions occur in areas previously declared “cleared” by the government.
