Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN): Eqbal Shabani and Towfiq Mahmoodi, two Kurdish Labour activists were sentenced to one year of suspended imprisonment for three years and one-year of imprisonment respectively on charges of cooperating with the “Opposition parties”.

KHRN has obtained information that Eqbal Shabani’s hearing was held on May 5, 2019 at branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj, headed by Judge Saeedi, and the verdict of one year suspended imprisonment for three years was officially served on him on May 11, 2019.

He was arrested by security forces on February 18 and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Sanandaj. He was temporarily released after 25 days of detention on a bail of 100 million Tomans.

Towfiq Mahmoudi, arrested by security forces on March 9, 2019 at his workplace in Sanandaj, was transferred to Sanandaj prison after 45 days of detention at the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Sanandaj but he was released on Saturday, May 11, 2019 following a hearing whose judge ordered a bail of 100 million Tomans for his release.
