“A civilian, Vahid Karbala’i, committed suicide and lost his life at Ward 2 of Orumiyeh Central Prison. He was arrested last week for carrying 10 grams of drugs and he was transferred to the prison.“ a source told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

According to the source, Vahid Karbala’i, a 35-year-old man who had been in prison for the past few days, had requested prison officials to transfer him to another ward due to the improper condition of Ward 10. The prisoner hanged himself in the bathroom of the ward following the refusal of authorities to accept his request, and his body is currently being held at the prison clinic.

Meanwhile, another prisoner named Ali Ami Zadeh, a resident of the village of Shirinni in Salmas, committed suicide at Salmas prison yesterday.

The prisoner was sentenced to “retribution” (Qisas) on the charge of “premeditated murder” in 2011. Although the sentence abrogated by the Supreme Court last year and referred to the Salmas court, he was sentenced to death again.

Ali Ami Zadeh, a former member of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), is said to have been charged by the Salmas Court with murdering his neighbour during a clash by using the weapon given to him by IRGC.
