Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN): The fate of Twelve Kurdish environmental activists and members of the Kurdistan branch of the National Unity Party, detained by the State Intelligence Bureau and the Intelligence Department of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) during the past few months, still remains uncertain.

According to the family members of some of these detainees, Hossein Kamangar, Farhad Mohammadi, Homayoun Bahmani, Rashed Montazeri, Isa Feizi, Sirwan Ghorbani, Farzad Hosseini, Hadi Kamangar and Jalal Rostami are all held at the Ministry of the Intelligence Detention Centre in Sanandaj without the right to visit their families and attorneys. During this time, they have only managed to make a short telephone call to their family. There is still no news about the cases of these activists despite the follow-up of their families from court and Sanandaj Intelligence Office.

” Idris Mohammadi and Awat Karami were transferred to the Detention Center of IRGC, known as “Shahramfar” after being interrogated at the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Sanandaj. There is still no news about their fates so far.”, a reliable source told KHRN regarding the latest situation of these two environmental activists from the village of Negel who were arrested by security forces on Jan 16, 2019 in Sanandaj.

According to another report, Armin Espelos, an environment activist, was transferred from Sanandaj Central Prison to one of the security institutions in Sanandaj for further interrogation on March 19, 2019.

It is noteworthy that 20 Kurdish Environmental activists and members of the Kurdish Branch of National Unity Party have been detained in Kamyaran, Marivan, and Sanandaj by the security forces during the past several months. Some of these detainees have been released on bail during the past months but some others are still held in detention. Armin Esperlus, Idris Mohammadi and Awat Karami are held at the detention center of IRGC Intelligence Bureau while Hossein Kamangar, Farhad Mohammadi, Farzad Hosseini ,Homayoun Bahmani, Rashed Montazeri, Isa Feizi, Sirwan Ghorbani, Hadi Kamangar and Jalal Rostami are held at the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Sanandaj.

Kurdistan branche of The National Unity Party, established in 2016, held an official license from the Ministry of the Interior under Iran’s Constitution law, in 2016 and its Kurdistan branch was active in Sanandaj, Marivan, and Kamyaran. The intelligence Office shut down its party offices in Sanandaj and Kamyaran in March 2019.
