The 15-year prison sentence of Sardar Ozmush, a Kurdish political prisoner, was upheld by Branch 25 of the Supreme Court last week, a reliable source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

The verdict has been officially served on this political prisoner by the Enforcement Office of Orumiyeh Central Prison.

Sardar Ozmush has been previously sentenced in February by Branch 2 of the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court to 15 years in prison, presided over by Judge Ali Sheikhlo, on charges of “membership in the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK).” He was also sentenced by Branch 116 of the Orumiyeh Court to three years in prison on charges of “illegal entry into the country,” which was reduced to two years in prison by Branch 13 of the Orumiyeh Court of Appeals.

Ozmush was convicted even though he had left the Kurdistan Workers’ Party about 12 years ago and settled in one of the Kurdish cities of Kurdistan. He had obtained Iraqi citizenship and passports during these 12 years, and he had travelled to Iran legally.

He was arrested by the security forces of Orumiyeh on December 11 and transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison after ten days of interrogation in a security detention centre in the city.
