On Friday evening many prisoners have escaped by breaking the prison door following riots amid growing concerns about the spread of coronavirus at the Saqqez prison. Following the incident, the atmosphere of the city is reportedly under the control of security forces.
Various sources in the city of Saqqez confirmed the news to the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) and reported the presence of law enforcement forces around the prison and elsewhere.
A short video of which is said to be related to the escape of a group of prisoners from Saqqez Prison has also been posted on social media.KHRN has obtained the names of a number of prisoners who have escaped from prison but the names are not disclosed for security reasons.
Prisoners rioted in the Saqqez prison following growing concerns about the spread of coronavirus in the prison. The city of Saqqez has one of the highest rates of coronavirus disease in the western part of the country.
