21 inmates were released from Orumiyeh Central Prison by an order of Judicial authorities. Most of the prisoners were spending the final months of their sentence, a source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Five religious prisoners and one Kurdish political prisoner are among the prisoners released on 24 December. They had been accused of “collaboration with Salafi groups” and sentenced to various imprisonment terms.

 Youssef Kamelan had been sentenced to four years in prison, Gafour Eswar to three and a half years in prison, Mansour Chopani to four years in prison, Habib Amini to three years and four months in prison, Mohammad Pishbain to one and a half years. Mohammad Asri was also sentenced to one year in prison on charges of “membership in one of the Kurdish opposition parties” and he was serving the ninth month of his prison term.
