Following the confirmation of death penalty for Ramin Hossein Panahi by the Supreme Court, a case has been filed to Branch Four of the Sanandaj Tribunal to enforce the verdict and prison authorities have reported that he would be executed after Ramadan.

Hossein Ahmadi Niaz, (Hossein Panahi’s lawyer) expressed his concern about the risk of executing his client in an interview with the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) while stating that Ramin Hussein Panahi’s case had been referred to Branch 4 of the Sanandaj Criminal Court.

On Saturday, May 19, the head of the Central Prison of Sanandaj summoned Ramin Hossein Panahi to his office and confirmed the approval of his death sentence by the Supreme Court in addition to informing him about his imminent execution after the end of Ramadan.

Moreover, Hossein Panahi’s lawyer told ISNA that he had filed a request to reinstate his case before the Supreme Court. He also stated that the contesting the verdict is the natural and legal right of his client based on Article 474 of the Criminal Code of the Penal Code and he has submitted his contest statement in six pages including two parts which deal with the form and material defects of the Supreme Court of the Supreme Court».

During the past few days, a number of civil and cultural activists from different cities of Iran have visited Ramin Hossein Panahi’s family while expressing solidarity with this political family and called for the abolition of his death sentence.

On Friday, June 22, Ramin was wounded and arrested by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Sanandaj. Ramin Hossein Panahi was held in solitary confinement in detention centres run by the Revolutionary Guards and Ministry of Intelligence from his arrest on 23 June 2017 until 9 January 2018, when he was transferred to Sanandaj’s Central Prison.

According to the his family, as well as his statements in the court, Ramin’s health has deteriorated due to torture and medical negligence during his time in solitary confinement. As a result, he is now suffering from kidney failure and amnesia. He is in poor physical health and he has not been offered any medical treatment in prison despite suffering from persistent pain due to kidney problems.

“According to his lawyer, Hossein Ahmadi Niaz, the verdict, issued by Judge Saeedi and another judge at the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj (Branch 1), Ramin Hossein Panahi has been sentenced to death by hanging per Articles 279 and 288 of the Islamic Penal Code.

On April, the case of this political prisoner was approved by the Supreme Court branch 34 and officially served to his lawyer.
