Ramin Hussein Panahi, a political prisoner, ended his hunger strike after meeting with his brother and upon the authorities of the Intelligence Service Detention Centre in Sanandaj promising him to take positive steps towards fulfilling his demands.

“On Thursday, December 15 Ramin ended his hunger strike after meeting with his brother Anvar Hossein Panahi, upon the authorities of the  Intelligence Service Detention Centre in Sanandaj promising him to take positive steps towards fulfilling his demands.” An informed source told Kurdistan Human Rights network.

“Ramin Hussein Panahi, who has been detained at the Intelligence Service Detention Centre since June 23, has gone on a hunger strike since Dec 5 in protest to his unclear status and the refusal of authorities to transfer him to Sanandaj Prison.” the source said.

“The Sanandaj Intelligence Office and the judge have agreed that Ramin has the right to obtain a lawyer. Panahi’s hearing, scheduled for December 16, will also be postponed to a later date in order to give sufficient time to his lawyer (Mr. Hossein Ahmadiniyaz) to review the case and submit his defence statement to the court. “The source added.

“Despite the completion of interrogations by the IRGC and the Intelligence  Service Detention Centre, Ramin is still in the solitary confinement cell at the intelligence Service Centre but the intelligence officials agreed to give him the right to visit his family and use the books and the newspaper before his transfer to the Central Prison. “, the source continued.

Ramin Hossein Panahi is a political activist and member of the Komala Party. On Friday, June 22, Ramin was wounded and arrested by the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) following the clashes between the IRGC forces and members of Komala in Sanandaj. The political prisoner was transferred to one of IRGC Intelligence Detention Centres in Sanandaj where he is still held.

It is worth mentioning that a case has been filed against Panahi at the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court (Branch 1) headed by Judge Saeedi on charges of Moharebeh through membership in the Komala Party. Recently my family has been informed that the Revolutionary Guard has sent a letter to the court asking for the execution of this political prisoner.

Earlier this July, Amnesty International based in London issued a statement announcing the arrest of Ramin Hussein Panahi and four members of his family while regarding their arrest as “compulsory disappearance” and calling for disclosure of information about their fate, location of arrest and the health status of Ramin Hussein Panahi who was wounded after the incident in Sanandaj. The organization urged Iranian authorities to promptly release the other individuals detained solely on account of their family relationship with Ramin Hussein Panahi.
