A prisoner “Hassan Javadi”, who had been at Orumieh Central Prison for about 15 years, has been found dead in prison.,an informed source in Orumiyeh told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

According to the source, 47-year-old Hassan Javadi was sentenced to life imprisonment on charges of “trafficking and shipping of drug” about 15 years ago. The prisoner suffered from heart failure and he had been deprived of the right to medical leave despite losing weight for about three months.

The source further added that the body of the prisoner was transferred to Orumiyeh Forensic Medicine this afternoon. Prison’s health clinic has announced the reason for the prisoner’s death as “cardiac arrest”.A prisoner named Farrigh Mohammadi, who was transferred to the hospital from the Orumiyeh Central Prison due to asthma and heart disease, also died at the hospital Earlier on February 28.

Due to growing concerns about the spread of Coronavirus at Orumiyeh Central Prison, prisoners held a general strike in protest to not being granted leave and refused to take prison food. At least 8 other prisoners suspected of Coronavirus have been previously transferred to a special quarantine section after being returned from the hospital for coronavirus testing.
