A Kurdish prisoner previously convicted of “premeditated murder” and sentenced to “retribution” was hanged on the morning of October 10, 2019, at Sanandaj Central Prison, an source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Alam Karimi had been arrested about ten years ago for “murdering” his nephew and has been “denying the charges even during the execution,” the source added. 

Karimi had been transferred to the solitary confinement cell at Sanandaj prison two on 8 October.

The execution of Alam Karimi coincided with the International Day of opposing the Death Penalty.
