On Sunday morning, February 2, the special guard of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj searched the ward 11 of this prison, where the Sunni prisoners were held. The guards disrespected the prisoners during their physical inspection and this has caused tension in the ward, sources told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

“From the very beginning of the inspection, the special guards were looking for excuses to suppress Sunni prisoners. Since Allah Karam Azizi was appointed as head of the prison, The special guards have confronted the prisoners in the hall under various pretexts.”, an informed source told KHRN.

Special guards have destroyed and confiscated personal belongings of prisoners during the confrontations and transferred some of confiscated items to the prison storage room, sources added.
They have also taken prisoners’ food rations. This behavior has already led to special guards being subjected to punitive measures by prison officials. However, since the appointment of Allah Karam Azizi as the head of the prison, the guards have carried out these activities openly.Following the clash between the special Guards and prisoners, access to making telephone calls to outside the prison was reportedly suspended for one day.

Sunni prisoners, the majority of whom are Kurds, have been transferred to the hall 11 of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj for about a year. The head of ward 4 is Vali Mohammadi, who also manages the prison’s internal affairs.
