Kurdish political prisoner Zeynab Jalalian was transferred from the quarantine ward of Qarchak Prison to an unknown location on Thursday, June 25, 2020, on the sixth day of her hunger strike, and there is no news on her fate.
The Kurdish political prisoner has been on a hunger strike since June 20, demanding her return to Khoy prison or transfer to Evin prison.
In an interview with the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), a family member of Jalalian expressed concern over her fate and called on the international community to react to the pressure on the political prisoner and her medical condition. “After a few days, we found out through the family of another prisoner in the same prison that Zeynab had been transferred to an unknown location on July 26 while in poor health.”, the family member said.
“Zeynab’s parents in Mako are unable to travel to Tehran due to old age to make enquiries about their daughter’s condition and fate, and Mr Mohammad Sharif, her lawyer, has also said that he was unaware of Zainab’s fate. We don’t know what the security agencies want from Zeynab. She was transferred to Qarchak Prison for no apparent reason during her thirteenth year in prison, and despite suffering from coronavirus, she did not receive any medical treatment until her lungs were severely damaged.”, the family member continued.According to this family member, in her first contact with her family after being transferred to Qarchak prison, Zeynab Jalalian has informed them that she had been handcuffed for two days and transferred from Khoy prison to Orumiyeh, then to Kermanshah and finally to Evin court. During this time, she has not been given enough water and food.
Zeynab Jalalian, a political prisoner from Maku, has been in prison for 13 years and her death sentence was reduced to life imprisonment in 2011. She has suffered from a number of illnesses during her imprisonment. She contracted coronavirus after being transferred to Qarchak Prison. During this time, she was transferred to a hospital outside the prison only once for coronavirus test and lung scans. However, despite being diagnosed with Coronavirus and the advice of the specialist regarding her need to receive special care due to her lungs being in critical condition, she was returned back to prison.
