Ibrahim Khalidi, a former political prisoner who had to leave Iran illegally in late June due to pressure from security agencies, has disappeared in Turkey since 3 months ago and there is still no information about his fate yet
Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been informed that a Kurdish student has disappeared in Turkey. This student had been arrested during a protests rally in Orumiyeh last year, but he was released on May 27, 2018 on a bail of 200 million Tomans from the Orumiyeh Central Prison. He fled abroad in late June due to repeated summons by Orumiyeh Intelligence Office. However, he disappeared in Turkey after a while.
“Ibrahim Khalidi spent some time in the city of Van upon arriving in Turkey and he was scheduled to present himself to the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Ankara shortly, but no information is available about his fate since the past 3 months.”, a member of Khalidi’s family said in an interview with KHRN.
Ibrahim Khalidi, a biology student at Payam Noor University in Oshnavieh and employee of Oshnavieh Emergency Department, was arrested on December 14 by the security forces during the protest rally in Orumiyeh and transferred to the intelligence bureau.
After two weeks of interrogation at the intelligence detention centre, he was transferred to the Orumiyeh Central Prison.
He was sentenced to five years of imprisonment in January on charges of “acting against national security through participation at Orumiyeh protests by branch 2 of Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court. This sentence was reduced to three years by the Orumiyeh the Court of Appeal on May 17.
On May 26, the judge granted this Kurdish student a temporary release from the prison on a heavy bail of 200 million Tomans until when his three-year sentence was due to be enforced.
