Four Kurdish political prisoners in the Orumiyeh Central Prison -Hamid Rahimi, Touraj Ismaili, Kamal Hassan Ramazan and Ahmad Tamouei- were transferred to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the Revolutionary Court without prior notice, on March 2, 2019 with regard to two new charges of “disrupting public order” And “blasphemy”.

According to the information obtained by Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), a new judicial case was brought forward against four political prisoners due to participation in last October’s protests at the Orumiyeh Central Prison following the beating of several Kurdish political prisoners by the authorities of this political prison.

Upon the Kurdish prisoner ‘ Hamid Rahimi’ being beaten by the prison’s special forces on October 5, 2018, the political ward of Orumiyeh Central Prison witnessed a massive protest for several hours. On Oct 16, 2018, 71 political prisoners went on a one-week hunger strike in protest to the beating of some of the political prisoners and prisoners of dangerous crimes by prison authorities in addition to deprivation of prisoners of conscience and political prisoners from furlough right.

Hamid Rahimi from Orumiyeh was arrested last March, and he was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment for cooperation with a Kurdish opposition party by branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary court of Orumiyeh chaired by Judge Sheikhloo. This verdict was later reduced to 13 months at the Orumiyeh Court of Appeal.

Touraj Ismaili from Orumiyeh was arrested in November 2015 and he was sentenced to five years in prison by the branch 2 of the Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh, chaired by Judge Sheikhloo, charged with acting against national security. The sentence was eventually reduced to 3 years and nine months in prison due to the lack of objection by the accused according to Clause on ‘Submissions to the Verdict’.

Kamal Hassan Ramazan: 33 years old From Serkani and Syria Kurdistan (known as Rojava) were arrested in Orumiyeh on August 28, 2014 and held in Solitary confinement at detention centres of Islamic Republic Guards Corps (IRGC) and Ministry of Intelligence in Orumiyeh for four months before being transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison. He was sentenced to 10 years and one day in prison on Aug 14, 2015, on chargers with membership in the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) and the 10-year imprisonment sentence of Ramadan was reduced to 7 years.

Kamal Hassan Ramadan has been sentenced to death by a verdict in absentia in another case on the charges of Moharebeh. This ruling was served on him in May 2017 by the Enforcement Section of Orumiyeh Central Prison.

Ahmad Tamouei From Salmas was arrested in Mahabad in November 2007 and he was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment by branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Mahabad on charges of membership in the Kurdistan Free Party (PJAK). During his 11 years in prison, the political prisoner has been transferred to solitary confinement several times in addition to being convicted of a new judicial case several times.
