Following the arrest of ten political and civil activists affiliated with the Kurdistan branch of the National Unity Party, a number of current and former members from Kamyaran and Sanandaj were summoned to the Intelligence Office in Sanandaj and interrogated for several hours.
Moreover, spouses of three previously arrested persons, who were also former members of the women’s committee of the Kurdistan branch of the National Unity Party, were summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence office in Kamyaran and interrogated.
Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been informed that Nahid Kamangar (wife of Rashid Montazeri), Nasrin Naghdi (wife of Hossein Kamangar) and Zara Yousefi (wife of Fazel Qaytazi) were summoned by the Kamyaran Intelligence Office and interrogated for several hours.
Furthermore, five other members of the Kurdish branch of the National Unity Party in the cities of Kamyaran and Sanandaj have been summoned to the Ministry of Intelligence office in Sanandaj and questioned about the subject of the workshops held by the party. Over the past two years, various educational workshops have been held by the Party at its offices on economic, political, environmental and women’s rights issues.
“Since the arrest, only Fazel Qeitasi, Hadi Kamangar, Reza Asadi and Amanj Ghorbani have had just one short telephone call with their family in order to inform them of their arrest by security agency in Sanandaj. The rest of these detainees have not been allowed to call or visit their families.” A reliable source has told KHRN.
From January 1-6, ten civil and political activists were arrested in Kamyaran and Sanandaj. Most of these detainees are active in the field of the environment as either current or former members of the Kurdistan branch of the National Unity Party while two of them are civilians and political activists.
The National Unity Party held an official license from the Ministry of the Interior and its Kurdistan branch was active in Sanandaj, Marivan and Kamyaran two years ago. The Kurdistan branch of this party was one of the first institutions in Kermanshah to form popular headquarters in the cities of Kurdistan during the last year’s earthquake to help earthquake victims.
