A member of the Kurdistan Teachers’ Trade Association was taken to Evin Prison upon referring to Shahid Moghadas Prosecutor’s Office.
“On Monday, September 18, Mokhtar Asadi, a member of the Kurdistan Teachers’ Trade Association, was arrested and transferred to Evin Prison to serve the remainder of his one-year imprisonment. Mokhtar Asadi had referred to Shahid Moghadas Prosecutor’s Office of Evin Prison to enquire about his bail since he had been summoned to the Prosecutor’s Office through a phone call. He had been told that the subject of his bail would be confiscated if he did not attend the Prosecutor’s Office.”, an informed source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network.
Mokhtar Asadi holds a Master’s degree in Sociology from Tehran University and he is a social and Kurdish rights activist. He was sentenced to exile and imprisonment in 2005 and 2010 due to his activities.
He was exiled from Sanandaj to Karaj for years. In 2010, he was arrested in Karaj and locked up in solitary confinement and public wards of Evin Prison for 66 days before being released on bail in the same year.
This activist later was sentenced to one year in prison by Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran, headed by judge Salavati, on charges of “propaganda against the regime”. The verdict was later confirmed at the 31 Court Branch of Tehran’s Court of Appeals chaired by Judge Zargar.
