On Wednesday, 15 of November, Mohammad Nazari and two other political prisoners known as Omar Faghihpour and Khalid Fereydouni were transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison from the Rajai Shahr prison in Karaj.

“These three political prisoners were transferred to the Orumiyeh Central Prison for unknown reasons from the security ward 10 of Rajaishahr prison in Karaj,” an informed source told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

“These political prisoners were transferred to the ward of ordinary prisoners after a few hours of imprisonment in quarantine on orders from prison authorities.” The source added.

“The health condition of this political prisoner is still critical due to his 99-day hunger strike but the judicial authorities ordered his transfer to Orumiyeh Central Prison along with two other political prisoners despite,” the source stated regarding the health status of Mohammad Nazari.

The three political prisoners, who were initially exiled from the Orumiyeh Central Prison to Rajaee Shahr prison in December 2007, were transferred to an unknown location on the pretext of being transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison from the Rajaee Shahr prison in Karaj on Jan 17, 2017.

Mohammad Nazari, imprisoned in Tehran for the past 24 years and sentenced to life imprisonment, was on hunger strike for 99 days in protest to his unfair imprisonment and the non-enforcement of Article 10 of Procedural Law in his case.

Nazari was arrested by agents of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence in the city of Boukan, West Azerbaijan Province on May 30, 1994 when he was 23 years old. Six months later, Judge Abdolahad Jalilzadeh at Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court (branch 1) sentenced him to death for his alleged membership in the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI), an opposition group seeking autonomy for Iran’s Kurdish region. Despite making an appeal, the verdict against him was finalised. Nazari’s sentence was later reduced to life imprisonment in 1999 amid the Islamic festival of Eid Qorban when the supreme leader pardoned some prisoners upon the recommendation of the Judiciary.

The two other political prisoners, Omar Faghihpour and Khalid Fereydouni, were arrested on charges of membership in the Kurdistan Democratic Party in 1999 and 2001 respectively. They were sentenced to death by the Revolutionary Court of Mahabad. Their verdict was reduced to life imprisonment a few years later at the Orumiyeh Appeal Court.

The three political prisoners have since been deprived of the right to leave (furlough).
