No News on Fate of Dozens of Injured Protesters in Kurdistan
Concerns over the fate of protesters who were injured during recent rallies by direct firing of the Iranian security forces in Javanrud, Sanandaj and Marivan have increased as some local activists are suggesting that the rumors about the death of injured protesters could be true, various sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).
According to reports from the sources, there is “no information available on the situation of 21 citizens in Javanrood, 18 citizens in Sanandaj and several others in Marivan who were all targeted by the Iranian security forces during recent protests against skyrocketing petrol prices in the country.”.
Some of the civilians have been arrested after being wounded by security forces, and others were taken to unknown locations after returning to hospitals before the end of their treatment.
Meanwhile, there have been rumours about the deaths of the detainees that have further increased their families’ concerns.
A video was released earlier on 29 November in which security forces were shooting at protesters from the rooftop of the Javanrud Judiciary Building.
Fate of Detained Environmental Activist in Sanandaj Remains Unknown
The Intelligence Department of Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) in Sanandaj arrested Arman Vafaie, an environmental activist and member of the Kurdistan Branch of the National Unity Party, at his home and transferred him to an unknown location on 19 November, a source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).
Vafaie was previously detained by IRGC during mass detention of environmental activists and members of the Kurdistan Branch of the National Unity Party on 17 February, 2019, and released on bail of 500 million Tomans after a month of interrogation.
His trial was taken place about a month ago at Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Sanandaj, presided by Judge Saeedi.
He was tried at the court on charges of “collaboration with one of the Kurdish opposition parties”.
Detained Children in Sanandaj Subjected to Pay 60 Million Tomans Cash
Judiciary authorities in Sanandaj have requested the families of a number of detained children to pay 60 million Tomans in cash to free their children for “reconstruction of damaged governmental buildings,” local sources told KHRN.
Most of the detained children are elementary and high school students. They are currently held in strict conditions at the probation offices, the police offices and the Sanandaj Correctional Center.
KHRN has received the identities of a number of detained children who are between the ages of 12 and 14.
Over 200 Detainees Transferred to Sanandaj, Kermanshah Prisons
Over 200 detainees from the cities Javanrood, Sare pol Zahab, Kermanshah, Mariwan and Saqqez have been transferred than to the central prisons of Sanandaj and Dizelabad in Kermanshah, various sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).
As per the sources, Dizelabad, Kermanshah and Sanandaj prisons already lacking sufficient facilities, and the transfer of detainees arrested during recent protests in various cities of Kurdistan has made the situation of prisoners in these prisons more critical.
The sources added that some detainees were injured due to being beaten or shot, and they have been denied medical treatment due to limited medical facilities and lack of doctors in those prisons.
The detained children have also been transferred to the Youth Correctional Center and Quarantine Center of the central prisons of Sanandaj and Dizelabad in Kermanshah.
