Following the announcement of a new amnesty by the judiciary on the occasion of Nowruz(Newroz),  Kurdish political prisoner ‘Bashir Pirmawane’ has been released from Orumiyeh Central Prison after three years in prison, a reliable source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

This political prisoner had been deprived of the right to parole during his time in prison. He went on a hunger strike for several weeks in August and February in protest to not being granted his conditional release.

Bashir Pirmawane was arrested in March 2016 by security forces in Orumiyeh and sentenced to five years in prison on charges of collaboration with a Kurdish opposition party. His five-year imprisonment sentence was later reduced to four years per the law of ‘Submission to the Verdict”.
