Kurdish Political Prisoner Maghboleh Sakanvand was released from Khoy prison after serving her nine months in prison on 21 Nov 2019.

Sakanvand was sentenced to one year in prison by the Khoy Revolutionary Court on 9 November on charges of “membership at one of the Kurdish opposition parties.”

The sentence was later reduced to nine months per the Law of Submission to the verdict since Sakanvand did not contest the sentence that gave her a chance to be released from prison sooner, a source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN)

Sakanvand, a former member of one of the opposition parties, was arrested upon her return to Iran despite her family’s coordination with the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC) which had been informed of her return prior to her travel.

The Intelligence Office of Orumiyeh arrested her for two weeks after her return and she was transferred to Khoy Prison after a month of interrogation at the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Orumiyeh.
