An Iranian Kurdish refugee was killed by her Kurdish husband on “the pretext of defending his honor,” a source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

According to the source, the family has been seeking asylum in Turkey for about a year.
The woman, who was stabbed with a knife multiple times in a southern Istanbul city, was a 26-years-old woman and her husband is 36.

The Turkish security police subsequently arrested him following the incident. The two children of this family are also currently in the care of the relevant institutions.

“Honour killing” is committed by male family members against a female relative upon the belief that she has brought “shame” on her family and “disregarded their honor.” According to the United Nations statistics, more than 5,000 women worldwide are victims of this form of violence each year.
At the request of their family, their identity is protected by KHRN.
