A Kurdish detainee has been transferred from the Sanandaj Central Prison to the Saqqez Prison in recent days, a source told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

Yasin Kanaani was arrested along with another civilian, Aso Ramazanzadeh, in Saqqez on February 15, 2019, and taken to the detention center in Sanandaj where he was interrogated for two months before being transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison.

Kanaani was charged with “collaborating with one of the Kurdish opposition parties.” Despite follow-ups by the KHRN regarding the trial, no details have been aired concerning the details of the case as of the time of posting this report.

Kanaani was arrested by security forces in Saqqez in October 2017 and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Sanandaj. He was finally released on a bail of 250 million Toman after a long process of interrogation that lasted for 45 days..

The Kurdish civilian was subsequently sentenced to five years in prison in 2017 on charges of “cooperation with one of the Kurdish opposition parties.” The sentence was later reduced to three years in prison by the Court of Appeal.
