Momostat Abdul Karim Azarin, Kurdish Sunni Cleric, was released on bail from Orumiyeh Central Prison after being detained for more than three months but his son-in-law, who was arrested before him, is still in detention.

“On June 10, 2017, the security forces of Orumiyeh arrested a member of the congregation called Mullah Mohammad Omari in his house in Piranshahr. He was then transferred to the Intelligence Detention Centre of Orumiyeh. 10 days later on June 20, his father-in-law called Mamousta Abdul Karim Azarin (Friday Imam of and director of the Religious Studies School of Shikh Said Noursi of Piranshahr) was also arrested by security forces and transferred to the intelligence Detention Centre of Orumiyeh,” an informed source told Kurdish Human Rights Network (KHRN).

“The two clerics were transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison on Thursday, Sept 21, 2017, after being detained at the Intelligence Detention Centre of the Orumiyeh for three months,” the source added.

According to this source, “On Tuesday, 4th of August, Mamostat Abdolkarim Azarin was released on bail of 150 million Toman from the central prison of Orumiyeh, but his son-in-law is still in temporary custody.”

“The authorities have still not commented on the exact details of the charges against these two clerics, but the Ministry of Intelligence had put Mamostat Abdul Karim Azarin under pressure to resign from the directorship of the Religious Studies School of Shikh Said Noursi of Piranshahr.” the source added.
