Three Sunni Kurdish prisoners, in the Orumiyeh Central Prison were sentenced to 25 years Imprisonment in total, by the Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh for membership in extremist groups.

In June, 2016, security forces arrested Tofiq Abdollahi from Mahabad, Yousef Kamla from Naqadeh, Habib Amini from “Dez Siawash Village” of Orumieh along with Davood Mihanparast, at the same time as a group,a local source told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

These four prisoners were interrogated and tortured for four months, in solitary confinement cells of Orumiyeh’s Intelligence Detention Centre on charges of Moharebeh (waging war against God) through membership in Salafi groups,the source said.

According to the source, “The Case of the prisoners was held by Judge Ismail Shoeibi at Branch 6 and was sent to Branch one of the revolutionary court. The court hearing of the four prisoners was held by Judge Chabok at Branch one of the revolutionary court of Ourmiyeh and the verdicts were officially notified to them in prison on May 30, 2017. According to the verdict, Tofiq Abdollahi sentenced to 15 years in prison, Yousef Kamla to 5 years in prison and Habib Amini to 5 years in prison.

Earlier, the Kurdistan Human Rights Network had reported the death penalty verdict of Davood Mayandost, one of the defendants in the case.

The four prisoners are now held in ward 13(the youth section) and ward 14(ordinary prisoners) of the Ourmiyeh prison.

At least 30 Sunni Kurdish prisoners currently kept imprisoned in various wards of Orumiyeh Central Prison that they were accused of “being members of Salafi groups”. The average sentences of these prisoners are between 9 months to 15 years in prison.
