Iranian border guards have killed a Kurdish tradesperson and wounded four Kolbar workers in the border areas of Sardasht, Piranshahr, Oshnavieh (Shno in Kurdish) and Saqqez in the past week alone, a source told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN)

KHRN has learned that Iranian forces had opened fire on a group of border tradespersons at the border areas of Kidie Shin near the city of Shno, killing local tradesperson Rebwar Omarzadeh and injuring another Rasoul Gorani.

The guards fired injuring Kolbar Majid Khalidzadeha Kolbar, in the border areas of Piranshahr on September 20.

Khadr Biloke, another Kolbar from Miravai of Sardasht, was injured on September 18.

Kayhan Akram, a trader from the village of Goizeh-e Kavire, was injured on September 14 in the Sarshiv of the Saqez area.

According to figures by Iranian Statistics Center, Iran’s Kurdistan has the highest inflation and unemployment rates in the entire country, which is why people of the border areas have chosen to work the risky Kolbari job on the border areas between Iraq and Iran.

Iranian border guards kill or injure dozens of Kurdish Kolbar workers and traders each year under the pretext of combating smuggling.
