The death sentence for two Kurdish political prisoners charged with Moharebeh (waging war against God) was affirmed by the Revolutionary Court after several years of uncertainty.

“On Wednesday, Oct 18, 2017, the court hearing of two Kurdish political prisoners (called “Saber Sheikh Abdullah” and “Diako Rasulzadeh”) was held at Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court headed by the judge Chabok who affirmed their death sentence on charges of Moharebeh through membership in the Komala Party in Mahabad.” an informed source told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

“These two political prisoners were sentenced to death in the fall of 2015 along with another political prisoner (called Hossein Osmani) on charges of” Moharebeh “through “Membership in the Komala Party” and “Participation in the 2010 bombing in Mahabad. Their court hearing was held at Mahabad Revolutionary Court chaired by Judge Javadikia while they were denied the right to have a lawyer. The afore-mentioned prisoners appealed against the verdict and their case was referred to the Supreme Court/Branch 47. The death sentence for Hossein Osmani was Revoked in January 2017 and his dossier was referred to Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court/Branch 1. The dossier of the two other political prisoners was referred to the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court due to lack of documents.”, the source added.

“Hossein Osmani and Diako Rasulzadeh were arrested in their homes on March 3, 2014, and Saber Sheikh Abdullah, a postgraduate student at Allameh Tabatabai University in Tehran, was arrested by security forces on March 15, 2014, in Mahabad. They were transferred to the Intelligence Detention Centre in Orumiyeh. The three political prisoners were pressured and heavily tortured for a year at the Intelligence Detention Centre to confess to participation in Mahabad bombing in September 2010. Finally, all the three prisoners were forced to make confessions in a TV program.” the source stated regarding the details of their detention.

It is noteworthy that the government officials and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had previously expressed contradictory statements about the perpetrators of Mahabad bombing. The Ministry of Intelligence issued a statement regarding the arrest of three of the “perpetrators of the bombing” on May 18, 2014. However, three years earlier on Sept 26, 2010, Muhammad Pakpour (commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps) had announced that the key elements of Mahabad bombing had been killed.

“After several days of observing some activities and finding more evidence, the terrorist elements were identified and prosecuted. As soon as the terrorists met with other anti-revolutionary element at the other side of the border, siege operations started by warriors of Hamza Sayyid al-Shohada Base. Finally, on Saturday, Sept 25, a large number of allies of World Arrogance including key terrorist elements of Mahabad Bombing were Killed.”, the IRGC Groundhog Commander had also said to the Iranian government news agencies previously.

“Interrogators of the Ministry of Intelligence first tortured the prisoners and then encouraged them to cooperate with the authorities while promising to release them if they take the responsibility for the bombing. Otherwise, they will be sentenced to death by the Ministry of Intelligence. All three political prisoners held for a period of about one year in the Security Detention Centre of Orumiyeh under tremendous pressure and heavy torture before their hearing was held at Mahabad Revolutionary Court in mid-March 2013. They were then transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison following the issuance of an indictment for participation in the bombing and membership In the Komala party.”, another reliable source stated.

These political prisoners were deprived of having a lawyer. Hossein Osmani denied the accusations and told the judge Javadikia that they were tortured and forced to make confessions. He even showed his scars and the remnants of the torture but the judge did not pay any attention to his plea. On Tuesday, April 7, 2015, Saber Sheikh Abdullah, Hossein Osmani and Diyako Rasoulzadeh were summoned by the Enforcement Office of Orumiyeh Prison where they were notified of their death sentence issued by Judge Ahmad Javadi Kia at the Mahabad Revolutionary Court.” the source added.

The Press TV broadcasted a video in which these political prisoners had made confessions in September 2014.
