A Detained Kurdish prisoner, citizen of Turkey who has been held at the central prison of Orumieh since 2010, has been on hunger strike on Sunday, November 11, in protest of his not being transferred to Turkeys prison.

A source close to the family of the prisoner told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) Hatam Ortoglu, a 70-year-old resident of Gawar, was arrested in 2010 in charge of drug offences in Orumieh. He paid the cost of his transfer to Turkey last year after the Turkish government agreed, but no action has been taken so far on his transfer.

The source further added that the elderly prisoner detained in Section 3-4 of the narcotics in the Central Prison of Orumiyeh, has gone on hunger strike since Sunday, but so far none of the officials have paid attention to his demands.

According to the source, the prisoner suffers from heart disease. He has had a heart attack in prison in addition to undergoing cardiac surgery once in a hospital in Orumiyeh.

Mr.Ortoglu was arrested by the Iranian security forces and sentenced to life imprisonment following the confession of several civilians from Orumiyeh regarding the purchase and sale of narcotics. His life imprisonment sentence was later reduced to 24 years of imprisonment.

He has requested to be transferred to one of the prisons in Turkey due to his age and history of heart disease. Last year, he paid 120 million Rials for the cost of the transfer, but so far no action has been taken.
