Over the past few months, harassment of civilians by security police officers at Kamyaran and Kermanshah has raised protest of some citizens.

A civilian who was harassed at the Qazanchi checkpoint in Kermanshah told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) that “For the past several months, security officers and anti-smuggling forces were deployed to the checkpoint of the Qazanchi in Kermanshah and Kamyaran to interrogate and inspect the personal belongings of the travellers.

According to the civilian, the insulting behaviours and disrespect raised protest of passengers. In such cases, police forces, in addition to interrogations, control the civilians’ mobiles and copy their content. In several cases, the name of passengers referred to the Security Police for filing a case if they listen to a Kurdish music sang by a singer who lives abroad.

“The travellers, who refuse to hand in their mobile phone along with the passcode or request a to be shown a judicial warrant, are beaten by security forces.”, he added.

The source further added that the mobile phone of a few civilians has been seized and referred to Kermanshah and Kamyaran Security Police over the past few months for filing and interrogating in the pretext of keeping Kurdish revolutionary songs and Kurdish fighters pictures on their mobile phones.
