Following a clash between Kurdish Political prisoners and a number of Ordinary Crimes prisoners in the youth ward of Orumiyeh Central Prison on Monday, January 24, reports indicate that the situation of ward is still alarming and three political prisoners have been beaten up in the quarantine section.
“On Monday, February 24, there was a clash between Kurdish and Azeri prisoners provoked by Sayyed Fatemi, who is in charge of the youth ward. However, in support of Ordinar Crime prisoners, the special guards beat up Kurdish political prisoners instead of calming the situation. ”, a source close to the family of a Kurdish political prisoner following up the prison news for the past few days told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

In the past few years, there have been several other clashes between Kurdish and Azeri prisoners at Orumiyeh Central Prison with the incitement of authorities. Prison officials, most of whom are members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), have supported Ordinary Crimes prisoners in all these clashes with Kurdish political prisoners.

The source further stated that Kamran Darwishi and Siamak Ashrafi were transferred to the prison yard where Sohrabi, the head of Orumiyeh Central Prison, and special guards beat them up with batons.

According to the source, Sohrabi has also ordered the three Kurdish political prisoners including Keyvan Rashozadeh, Kamran Qasemi and Kamran Darwishi to be transferred to the quarantine section.

“Yesterday, a prisonor held at quarantine section informed the families of the above-mentioned three political prisoners that the head of the prison and prison guards had beaten them up with baton in the prison yard again,” he added.

The three prisoners and four other political prisoners including Siamak Ashrafi, Omid Saeedi, Keyvan Zarei and Reza Esmaili have been on hunger since Feburary 22, in protest to non-compliance with the principle of Separation of Crimes in the prison and lack of a separate cell for the political prisoners in the youth ward.
