Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been informed that a former Kurdish political asylum seeker Ibrahim Khalidi has been arrested after being deported from Turkey to Iran and he is currently being held at Khoy Prison in West Azerbaijan Province.

Ibrahim Khalidi, a student from Sardasht, was arrested during the protests in Orumiyeh in January 2017 and he was later sentenced to three years in prison. He was released on a bail of 200 million Tomans in June 2018, but he was later forced to leave Iran as a result of pressure from security agencies and the confirmation of his sentence. He was able to reach Turkey after settling into the office of the High Commissioner for Refugees and lived in a safe country until his transfer. But the Turkish government arrested him for unknown reasons and deported him to Iran a year and a half later. It is not specified when this asylum seeker was deported to Iran, but it seems that Mr Khaledi was deported to Iran on December at the same time as the expulsion of 33 Iranian and Afghan refugees from Turkey.

KHRN has previously reported the deportation of 33 asylum seekers and announced the identities of two of them, Adel Bahrami and Adel Makrami. Both these asylum seekers were Kurdish political activists who were arrested and imprisoned after being deported to Iran.

Adel Bahrami has been released on bail after three months in detention, but Adel Makrami is still in prison in Orumiyeh.
