Parviz Nasseri, arrested in November protests, was sentenced to five years in prison by Branch 2 of the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court on charges of “cooperation with Party for Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK)”, reliable sources told the Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).
The preliminary verdict was served on his lawyer yesterday. The ruling was issued while the trial of the Kurdish civilian in absence of his lawyer at Branch 2 of the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Courts presided over by Judge Ali Sheikhlo.
Judge Sheikhlo had previously maintained that the trial would resume next week following the protest of Nasseri’s lawyer as to the court’s failure to declare a date for the trial. But contrary to the judge’s promise, Nasseri’s lawyer was informed that a five-year imprisonment sentence had been issued for his client while he had not attended the court to represent him as he was not aware of the trial date.
Parviz Nasseri was arrested in November during the protest rally against the sudden increase of petrol price in Iran. He was transferred to Orumiyeh Central Prison on November 29, after the interrogation process ended.
