Kurdish environmental activist “Chia Mohammadi” has been sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment by the Branch 4 of the Court of Appeal in Sanandaj while he was initially sentenced to five years in prison by Branch 1 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj.

Chia Mohammadi was previously detained on Feb 23 and held in solitary confinement for six months. He was charged with “links with the opposition Kurdish parties”, “acting against national security”, “propaganda against the state” and “spreading lies”. He was eventually released on a bail of 800 million tomans.The environmental activist was also summoned to Branch 2 of Investigation with the complaint of the Intelligence Office of Kurdistan Province on charges of “gathering and colluding against the system” but he was temporarily released on bail. His trial for this case has not yet been held.
