Hossein Mohammadian, a prisoner from Bukan who was arrested in 2004 and sentenced to Qisas (retaliation in kind), has gone on hunger strike in protest to his uncertain fate despite being in prison for 15 years.

Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has learned that this prisoner, who is being held in Ward 9 of Tabriz Central Prison, had gone on hunger strike on Tuesday, Sept 3, 2019 in protest to his uncertain situation. In a letter to prison officials, he has called for either enforcement of his death sentence or his release on bail due to 15 years of uncertainty about his fate.

On Friday, the prisoner was transferred to the prison’s Medical Center and doctors advising him that it was dangerous for him to continue the hunger strike, but the prisoner insists on continuing his strike.

The inmate of Bukan was arrested and sentenced to retaliation in kind in Tabriz, along with another civilian, Ismail Mostakhtem, in 2004.

The families of the two prisoners have not been able to obtain the consent of the victim’s family for revocation of the death sentence over the years. the other prisoner, Ismail Mostakhtem, is also suffering from cancer at the prison and his treatment has been suspended due to his intention to escape during the course of chemotherapy.
