There are serious concerns about the fate of of Hossein Kamangar who has been on hunger strike for the past 18 days during which no information has been received about his fate. He is under pressure to make forced confessions at the Sanandaj Intelligence Detention Centre.

“Over the past two weeks, Kamangar’s family have repeatedly referred to the court and Intelligence Bureau in Sanandaj to find out about the fate of Hussein Kamangar but their attempts have been fruitless. Interrogators of the Sanandaj Intelligence Bureau have claimed that he has been transferred to the Kamyaran Prison while Kamyaran Intelligence Bureau has not released any statements in this regard.”, A source close to the family of this activist told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN):

According to this source, the family’s attempts to appoint a lawyer to represent the afore-mentioned activist has failed due to lack of consent by the Kamyaran Prosecutor’s Office and the Intelligence Bureau. Kamyaran’s court has appointed a lawyer to represent Hussein Kamangar but this lawyer does not have any information about Hussein Kamangar’s health and case.

“Contradictory statements made by security officials and lack of information about the continued hunger strike of Hossein Kamangar have raised the family’s concern over his health,” the source added.

KHRN has previously released a report about hunger strike of Hussein Kamangar who is under pressure to make forced confessions about participation in the killing of Kuhsar Fatehi, the ambulance driver of the Kamyaran city’s Red Crescent Directorate.

Hossein Kamangar was arrested on January 5, 2019 following the massive arrests of environmental activists and members of the Kurdistan branch of National Unity Party in Kamyaran. Some of these detainees were released on heavy bails after a few months, but this activist is still being detained along with two other Kamyaran civilians, “Khaled Zamani and Bassam Moradi”.
