Anwar Khezri, the Kurdish religious prisoner who has been detained for more than 9 years at the Rajayshahr Prison of Karaj, has written an open letter about his attempt to commit suicide when interrogated at the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Orumiyeh in protest to being under physical and psychological torture.
He was sentenced to death at Branch 28 of Tehran’s Revolutionary Court headed by Judge Moghise in late March 2016 in a five-minute trial along with six other prisoners in the same case.

In his letter, Anwar Khezri states that:

I was summoned to the prosecutor’s office in Mahabad on Dec 7, 2009 when I was arrested and transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Orumiyeh. Initially, they asked me to cooperate with them as a syp. Then, they accused me of the false allegations. I endured the most severe physical and mental torturer during my detention and I not only still have not recovered my health after more than 9 years but also suffer from serious physical problems. such as head injury and the cerebellum, fracture in my chest, knees, soles, left wrist in addition to muscle contraction of the veins and shoulder tendons, etc. On the 56th day of my detention, I committed suicide by breaking the ceiling lamp with my left hand due to being under sever torture.

When I regained conscience at the hospital, I noticed that there was ink on my index finger. I asked the officers why there was ink on my finger and the officers replied that they had used my index finger to obtain my permission for the surgery. Nobody has ever heard of obtaining permission from an unconscious person for the surgery.

On the fifty-seventh day of detention, I was operated at the hospital by Dr Toloi. After the operation, II was transferred to the torture chamber without my doctor’s permission to be subjected to more torture, threats despite my physical condition and the effects of anaesthetic drugs. Therefore, I was finally forced to fingerprint the papers whose content I was not aware of- particularly when I was threatened that my parents will be killed by a crash if I did not do so.

Then I was taken to the front of the camouflaged camera following a dirty scenario whose fakeness every reasonable person will easily recognize when watching the film directed by the Press TV Which is the agent of the Ministry of Intelligence. In this film, it is claimed that I had committed suicide because I was feeling guilty and I wanted to ease my conscience! The same question was asked from the inspector of the detention centre at the hospital, who replied that answer: “By torture, threats and insults, they are trying to bring charges against me that my soul does not know about them, then he inquired about the flow of a fine finger from the interrogator, the examiner wondered with the permission of the room Do not take action from an individual …

The charges against other defendants include Moharebeh, Corruption on earth, acting against national security, membership and cooperation with Kurdish parties, as well as membership and cooperation with the Taliban and al-Qaeda groups, the assassination of Mamosta Abu Bakr Tina, a Sunni cleric Opposition to the regime, illegal traffic from the borders, and so on.

Other problems include the frequent and deliberate loss of medical records and the lack of treatment and treatment or re-deployment to the hospital. Whenever it is reported that these problems have taken place in the detention centre due to torture, the medical staff has been abusing them and with the direct instruction of the prison, director Delayed treatment.

Over the course of more than 9 years, I and other defendants in our case have received offers from the Ministry and judges including freedom, acquittance, money and facilities or a new sentence of the size of your imprisonment we already served, just enough to accept the accused or testify against each other …

Even in some cases, they used the threat. In August 2017, in an unusual act, the defendants whose sentences were handcuffed, shackled and blindfolded and taken to an unknown location and said we are going to execute you.
