In recent days, the Sanandaj Court of Appeals has confirmed the sentences of Afshin Hossein Panahi and Ahmad Amin Panah (a relative of Hussein Panahi) which led to the arrest of Ahmed Amin Panah by security forces on March 26, 2018.

Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been informed that in recent days the Sanandaj Appeal Court has just approved the eight and a half years imprisonment sentence for Afshin Hossein Panahi and a five years imprisonment sentence for Ahmad Aminpanah. They had been charged with propaganda against the regime And cooperating with the Komala Party by Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj November last year.

On the eve of the 26th March, Ahmad Amin Panah, who had been released on bail of 150 million Toman earlier in July last year, was arrested by security forces. A close friend of Hossein Panahi family told the network that he was arrested after his five years of imprisonment was approved by the Court of Appeals.

On 24 June 2017, passengers of a car (Peugeot) who were members of the underground organisation of Komala Party were attacked by the Beitol Moghadas Army in Sanandaj. A member of the Komala Party known as Sabah Hossein Panahi and two Kurdish citizens including Hamid Saif Panahi and Behzad Nouri, were shot dead. The bodies of the victims have still not been delivered to their families. Another member of Komala Party known as Ramin Hossein Panahi, wounded seriously in the clash, was arrested by the Revolutionary Guard.

Ramin Hossein panahi,was transferred to the Besat Hospital of Sanandaj after being arrested by the Revolutionary Guards and a few hours later he was transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence Detention Centre in Beitol Moghadas barrack. He was transferred to Sanandaj Central Prison on January 09 after 200 days.

Following this clash, the Revolutionary Guard also raided his father’s house in Ghorochia village, in Dehgolan, and arrested some of his family members including his brother Afshin Hossein Panahi, Zobeir Hossein Panahi and Ahmad Amin Panah.

According to the family of this political prisoner and his own statements at the court, Ramin’s health has deteriorated due to torture and medical negligence during his time in solitary confinement. As a result, he is now suffering from kidney failure and amnesia. He is in poor physical health and he has not been offered any medical treatment in prison despite suffering from persistent pain due to kidney problems.

It is worth noting that Ramin’s brother known as Afshin Hossein Panahi, who has a background in cooperation with environmental NGO’s, was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison by the Revolutionary Court on charges of holding a Newruz ceremony and supporting the Kurdish parties. He is now held at Sanandaj Central Prison. Zubair Hossein Panahi (Ramin’s cousin) has been also sentenced to six years in prison while Ahmad Amin Panah (the family’s son-in-law) was sentenced to five years in prison.

“According to his lawyer, Ahmad Hossein Niyazi, the verdict, issued by Judge Saeedi and another judge at the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj (Branch 1), Ramin Hossein Panahi has been sentenced to death by hanging per Articles 279 and 288 of the Islamic Penal Code.

Following a lawsuit filed by Ramin Hussein Panahi’s lawyer, the case has been referred to Branch 37 of the Supreme Court of the country based in Qom.

Ramin and Afshin Hossein Panahi are currently held in Sanandaj Central Prison.
