Three activists from Mahabad who were previously detained on charges of participating in a protest to the killing of Kolbars have been sentenced to several months of imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court of Mahabad.
“In the past few days, three activists called Kobra Khalandi, Mostafa Abu Bakri and Pouya Adelkhani were summoned by Revolutionary Court in Mahabad (branch 1) headed by Judge Javad Gholami who charged them with launching a telegram channel calling for a protest rally. The imprisonment for these civil activists was issued despite the statement of the Interior Minister (Abdul Rahman Fazli) yesterday. “kolbars are banned from working today and no one has the right to do this job. The borders will be closed. “, He said in a meeting with the Chamber of Commerce.
“According to the new law, Kobra Khalandi was sentenced to two and a half months of imprisonment, Mustafa Abu Bakri was sentenced to nine months of imprisonment and Pouya Adelkhani was sentenced to two months of imprisonment,” the source said.
“The three activists were arrested by the police and intelligence forces of Mahabad on Sept 10, 2017, at the Chawar Chiri Square in Mahabad. After spending a night at the Mahabad Detention Centre, they were transferred to the Mahabad Prison. These forces later visited the homes of the detainees and seized a number of their personal belongings.”, the source continued.
“After 7 days of arrest and interrogation, these three activists were released on a bail of 50 million Tomans from the prison, and, their trial was held at Branch 1 of the Mahabad Revolutionary Court on Oct 11, 2017.”, the source also said.
On Monday, September 04, the murder of two Kolbars in one of the Baneh borderlands led to massive protests in Baneh and the protests spread to Sanandaj, Mahabad and Kermanshah during the following days. During these protests, security forces arrested tens of citizens and civil activists protesting to the Killing of Kurdish Kolbars in various cities of Kurdistan.
