On Sunday, Nov 12, 2017, a young prisoner charged with robbery in ward 5 of the Zahedan Central Prison Committed self-immolate in protest to refusal of the prison authorities to transfer him to the youth section.

“Rasoul Barakzahi, a 23-year-old prisoner accused of robbery in ward 5 of Zahedan Central Prison, committed self-immolation after eating a large number of rags, in protest to refusal of the prison authorities to accept his request to transfer him to the youth section. His cellmates interfered and the fire was extinguished.” An informed source told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

“as a result of self-immolation, only a small part of the prisoner’s neck has been burned, but his health condition is critical to swallowing a large number of rags.”, the source added.

“After transferring this prisoner to the prison clinic, he was transferred to the quarantine as a punishment instead of being treated.”, the source said.

“Rasoul Barakzahi, 23 years old and from Zahedan, was arrested one and a half year ago on suspicion of robbery and he has been kept in ward 5, which a statistical population of 280 people, among the prisoners of dangerous crime.” the source continued.
