Iranian police officers chased a vehicle belonging to a tradesman and his wife. This chase led to an accident in which both the driver (tradesman) and his wife were killed.

“On Saturday, Nov 25, 2017, police chased a car belonging to a Kurdish Tradesman carrying satellite receivers on the road from Divandareh to Bijar. During this chase, both the passengers of the vehicle were killed in an accident when attempting to run away from the police while driving in the opposite direction of the road,” an informant source told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

According to the source, despite the death of Atta Mohammad Zadeh and Soghra Timouri, police forces seized the cargo of their vehicle.

The majority of Kurds living in the Kurdistan Province in Iran who choose to work as Kolbers are well aware of the dangerous working conditions of this job. However, they have no other choice due to lack of macro-economic infrastructures, discrimination in allocating annual budgets to Kurdistan, high unemployment rate, lack of alternative jobs, little investment in the domain of agriculture, mine and tourism.

According to KHRN investigations, at least 22 Kolbars and tradesmen lost their life as a result of landmine explosion, drowning in the river, avalanche fall, frostbite, falling into the valley, etc in 2016.
