An ordinary crime prisoner detained at Tabriz Central Prison sewed his lips. This political prisoner has been on hunger strike since Thursday, Nov 23, 2017, in protest to the verdict issued against him.

According to reports received by Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), Babak Jidari (a prisoner detained in ward 9 of Tabriz Central Prison) went on hunger strike by sewing his lips on Saturday, January 20, 2018, in protest to being sentenced to 30 years of imprisonment.

“Babak Jidari was arrested in 2014 for allegedly disturbing public order and conflict with a judge called Firouz Hassanpour. He was tortured for several weeks in the Intelligence Detention Centre of NAJA (Iranian Law Enforcement Force).”, an informed source said while clarifying the reason for this prisoner’s detention.

“This prisoner has been tortured so severely that his shoulder broke during torture and the signs of torture are still evident on his body. He has been sentenced to 40 years in prison by Branch 112 of the Tabriz Penal Court for alleged confrontation with government officials and disrupting public order. “, the source added.

“This prisoner has no one outside the prison to follow his case. So, he had no other choice but to go on hunger strike with sewing his lips in protest to the verdict issued against him.”The source added.
