On February 24, five citizens from Orumiyeh were sentenced to six months to five years in prison due to participation in recent protests by the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court on charges of acting against national security and propaganda against the regime.

“On February 17, the court hearing for five citizens called Matin Khalidi, Amin Zendeh Del, Monireh Soltanzadeh, Safar Ordokhani and Naser Hasani, who had been arrested during the recent protests in Orumiyeh, was held at Branch 3 of Orumiyeh Revolutionary court chaired by Judge Reza Najafzadeh.” An informed source told Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN).

According to the source, yesterday the verdict was issued by the Revolutionary Court to the lawyers of four of those citizens who had been released earlier on bail. On the same day, Matin Khalidi, held in ward 13 of the Orumiyeh Central Prison, was summoned to prison an notified of his sentence In person.

“Matin Khalidi and Amin Ali Zand were sentenced to five years imprisonment on charges of acting against national security in addition to one year of imprisonment due to propaganda against the regime while Nasser Hosni and Safar Ordoukhani were both sentenced to one year imprisonment on charges of propaganda against the regime and Monireh Soltanzadeh was sentenced to six months in prison on charges of propaganda against the regime.”, the source added.

“Per “Article 134 (Aggregation of Sentences), the most severe punishment of five years imprisonment for Matin Khalidi and Amin Ali Zand will be enforced.”, the source said.

On December 16, 2017, during the protest rally in Orumiyeh, more than 15 citizens were arrested and transferred to the Intelligence Detention Centre of this city. A number of these citizens were transferred to the Central Prison after two weeks of interrogation at the detention centre but they were released later on bail.

Matin Khalidi and Ibrahim Khalidi from Sardash (a student at Orumiyeh University) are still in ward 13 (Youth section) of the Orumiyeh Central Prison.
