A teacher from Sardasht, recently sentenced to 18 months in prison by the Revolutionary Court on charges of “membership in the Iranian Call and Reform Organization”, was transferred to Mahabad Prison to endure his sentence.

Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN) has been informed that Bakhtiar Arefi, a Teacher from Sardasht who has been arrested on Tuesday June 23, was summoned to the Enforcement Office following the confirmation of his verdict and transferred to Mahabad Prison.

Bakhtiar Arefi was also arrested by security forces in Sardasht February 5, 2015, and was released on bail after a month of interrogations.

He was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court of Sardasht on charges of “membership in the Iranian Call and Reform Organization”. Upon his lawyer’s protest to this verdict, the case was referred to branch 10 of the Orumiyeh Appeal Court which approved the verdict on January 26, 2016.

Following the approval of his lawyer’s request for the reinstatement of this teacher’s case, the sentence was finally reduced to 18 months of imprisonment, on October 30, 2017 per article 18 of the Islamic Penal Code, .
