A young Kurdish singer known as Peyman Mirzazadeh (from Gangchin village at Orumiyeh) was sentenced to six months of imprisonment by the Revolutionary Court of Orumiyeh on charges of propaganda against the system due to singing Kurdish revolutionary songs.
According to reports received by Kurdistan Human Rights Network (KHRN), this singer was transferred to the Orumiyeh Central Prison from Orumiyeh Intelligence Detention Centre last week. He was put on trial without the presence of a lawyer and Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court (Branch 3) charged him with propaganda against the state for six months Imprisonment.
On Monday, Dec 18, 2017, Security forces entered the home of Peyman Mirzazadeh in Gangchin village at Orumiyeh, arrested and transferred him to Orumiyeh Intelligence Detention centre where he was interrogated due singing Kurdish revolutionary songs at a wedding ceremony.
After interrogation, he was transferred to ward 3-3 of the Ordinary Prisoners’ at Orumiyeh Central Prison whose authorities have ignored his requests for the transfer to section 12, the “ward of Political Prisoners”.
Due to the prohibition on the singing epic and revolutionary Kurdish songs, several Kurdish singers and artists are arrested and prosecuted annually by security forces for propaganda against the system.
